"The wind will not stop. Gusts of sand swirl before me, stinging my face. But there is still too much to see and marvel at, the world very much alive in the bright light and wind, exultant with the fever of spring, the delight of morning." - Edward Abbey

The Triassic period of the Mesozoic era was dominated by extensive brown tidal flats bordering sea scapes that lied along the western margin of Plateau Country. The resulting brown mudstones are known today as the Moenkopi Formation. Moenkopi is also a Hopi village near Grand Canyon; "the place of running water".
